The father of the only person to survive a crash in the central North Island is at his son's bedside in Waikato Hospital.
Four Argentinean men, aged between 19 and 35, died when their car collided with a truck at National Park on Wednesday.
The fifth person in the car, Benjamin Blake from Chile, is in Waikato Hospital in a stable condition.
Mr Blake's father, Eric Blake, a surgeon, travelled from Santiago to be with his son, while the rest of his family remained behind to attend a church mass.
Dr Blake says it is a miracle his son survived the crash and he has offered his condolences to the families of those who died.
Mr Blake, who suffered a broken leg, broken arm and broken ribs in the crash, underwent further surgery on Saturday.
