Macdonald family say verdict was correct

The parents of Ewen Macdonald have spoken publicly about the trial in which he was found not guilty of killing his brother-in-law Scott Guy.

A jury at the High Court in Wellington on Tuesday found Mr Macdonald not guilty of the murder of Mr Guy in July 2010.

Justice France remanded him in custody until 31 July when he will appear in the Palmerston North District Court for a date to be set for sentencing on other charges.

In a statement on Thursday, Kerry and Marlene Macdonald said the verdict was correct and they are at peace with the knowledge they have the truth.

"The trial has been brutal for many especially (Scott Guy's widow) Kylee and the Guy family," the statement said.

"Ewen knows he is responsible for that as well as the physical crimes he committed.

"Ewen has no words big enough to express his remorse or apologies.

"We feel that the media have forgotten through the weeks of the trial about the real tragedy which is Scott's death, and all who miss him."
