Tamihere to defend parole breach charges

11:18 am on 28 May 2012

Tamihere was released from prison in 2010 after serving a sentence for killing Swedish backpackers Heidi Paakkonen and Urban Hoglin in Coromandel in 1989.

The Corrections Department has charged Tamihere for breaching his parole conditions, which state he can not enter the Coromandel Peninsula. Tamihere has pleaded not guilty to the charge.

At the Waitakere District Court on Monday, a lawyer for the Corrections Department requested a hearing at which three parole officers will give evidence.

Tamihere will also give evidence about what he knew about his parole conditions.

The half-day hearing is set down for November.
