Valerie Adams is expected to provide New Zealand's second gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi when she steps up to defend her women's shot put title.

Adams, formerly Vili, set the Games record when she won in Melbourne in 2006 then went on to add the world and Olympic titles.

She won gold at the Melbourne Games and claimed a silver medal at the Manchester Commonwealth Games in 2002. She also holds an Olympic gold, won at Beijing in 2008.

Adams has few rivals in the Commonwealth competition, but says Cleopatra Burrell of Trinidad and Tobago is one to watch.

She says Burrell has thrown over 19.5 metres this year, but the next competitor back would be nearer to 17 metres.
