Red stickers expire, new notices to prohibit entry

Red sticker notices on about 500 homes in the Port Hills area of Christchurch expire on Tuesday but the city council says residents should not expect to return there yet.

Christchurch City Council says many of the properties are still at serious risk of rockfall and the red stickers will be replaced by different notices that prohibit entry under the Building Act.

Red stickers indicate that a home or other building has been seriously damaged and unsafe to enter.

Geotechnical work on the Port Hills was set back by the June aftershocks and is now expected to continue until the end of the year.

The council says until a report is received and reviewed, residents should adhere to the new notices for their own safety.
