Painting to be sold to help quake victims

A painting with an estimated value of $250,000 will be auctioned in Auckland to help Christchurch quake victims.

Historian and author Dick Scott has owned the Don Binney painting Kotare over the Ratana Church for nearly 50 years.

Mr Scott, who bought it for fifty guineas in 1964, says it's been a lifelong friend, but the chance to raise such a sum for Christchurch has prompted him to part with it.

The painting will go up for sale at Webb's auction house later this month, with proceeds going to the earthquake appeal fund.
