An extra $330,000 will go towards improving the lives of youth support workers in Canterbury, in an attempt to ease their stress.
The money, from the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal Trust, will be handed out over several years, to help two hundred workers, who in turn support more than 26,000 young people.
Canterbury Youth Workers Collective coordinator John Harrington said staff have taken on extra work on top of dealing with their personal problems as a result of the earthquakes and their wellbeing needs to be looked after too.
He said the funds will be spent on supervision and counselling for youth workers, and to set up work support networks in the suburbs of Christchurch.
