Council wants answers on slow quake claims

Christchurch City Council wants answers from the Government over how long it is taking to process earthquake claims and do repairs.

Councillors voted on Thursday to write to Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee and the Earthquake Commission asking them how claims are prioritised.

This follows Wednesday's protest when about 100 angry people confronted the commission's chief executive Ian Simpson outside his Christchurch office.

They told Mr Simpson they are frustrated by the lack of progress over their quake-damaged land.

As well as asking for more information about how claims are processed the council also wants the elderly, those with children and those with the most badly damaged houses to be given top priority.
