Restaurant Brands is optimistic it will achieve full year profit of about $20 million this year - but uncertainty around GST could affect earnings.
The group, which owns KFC, Pizza Hut and Starbucks, made $19.9 million in the year to the end of February, 70% more than the previous year. Total revenue was $318.3 million, an increase of almost 3%.
Chief executive Russel Creedy says the company has to be a bit cautious in these times because there's a "fair bit of uncertainty" about a prospective rise in GST.
He says Restaurant Brands is taking the approach of not really doing another dramatic.
Mr Creedy says a rise of 2.5% is a lot - "but the big question is, will it actually happen?"
GST is currently 12.5%.
Shares in Restaurant Brands closed up seven cents at $2.10 on Wednesday.
