Volkswagen says its sales dropped by 16.5% in November from the same month last year.
A statement issued on Friday by Europe's biggest car maker said unit sales came to 447,000 vehicles.
Since 1 January, total sales for the group, which includes the Audi, Seat and Skoda brands, were 5.73 million vehicles - a decline of 1.7% from the same period in 2007.
Sales director Detlef Wittig said the decline of 16.5% in November compared favourably with a sector drop of 24.5%.
In October, VW posted a sales decrease of 5%.
