Manufacturing activity in Australia fell for the 10th consecutive month in December.

AAP reports falls in activity recorded by the Australian Industry Group performance of manufacturing index were largest in the wood and paper products sub-sector as well as the textiles sub-sector.

Australian Industry Group chief executive Innes Willox said pressures were widespread across the industry from weak global demand and the softening domestic economy.

"No manufacturing sub-sector recorded an expansion in activity (in December)," he said in a statement.

AAP reports the Reserve Bank of Australia has cut its interest rate by 1.75% since November 2011, most recently in December, to 3%.
