NZX 50 falls a fraction on Friday

New Zealand's benchmark NZX 50 share index fell 3 points on Friday to finish the week at 3948. The sharemarket's total turnover for the day was $101 million.

Air NZ fell 3 cents to $1.205, Cavalier slumped 21 cents to $1.55, Chorus slipped 1 cent to $3.23, Contact fell 3 cents to $5.16.

Sky City fell 9 cents to $3.78, and TrustPower fell 3 cents to $8.47.

Ryman Healthcare was unchanged at $4.13

Stocks which rose during the day included Diligent, which jumped 19 cents to $4.26.

Fletcher Building rose 2 cents to $7.45, Mainfreight rose 8 cents at $10.58, and retailer Kathmandu rose 12 cents to $1.85.

Infratil rose 2 cents to $2.19, Sky TV rose 1 cent to $5.07, while TradeMe lifted 2 cents to $4.22.

At the end of the local business week, the New Zealand dollar was trading at 81.06 US cents, 78.45 Australian cents, 51.11 British pence, 65.76 Japanese yen, 0.6348 of a euro and the TWI is at 72.88 points.

Across the Tasman, the Australian sharemarket suffered its biggest weekly fall in six months after closing down another quater of a percentage point on Friday.

The ASX All Ordinaries retreated 11 points to 4360 while the ASX 200 lost 12 points to 4,337, the ABC reports.

The stalemate in the US over government debt, the eurozone slipping back into recession and Greece edging toward default, all weighed on the Australian market.
