Call for French Polynesia border closure as Covid-19 climbs

From , 6:02 am on 28 August 2020

There are calls for French Polynesia to close its borders with the resurgence of Covid-19 seeing cases rise to over 300.

During French Polynesia's first wave of the coronavirus, which lasted from March to June, only 62 people were infected.

This second wave struck in July not long after the government reopened its borders and promoted quarantine free travel in a bid to restart the tourism industry.

Mareikura Brightwell lives and works in Tahiti as a multimedia consultant but got stuck in New Zealand when it locked down its borders.

Brightwell told Moera Tuilaepa Taylor a lot of people back home feel they are getting mixed messages from the government about the latest outbreak.
