Three accomplished New Zealand Pasifika athletes are set to be inducted into the Otara Sports Awards Hall of Fame.
Brothers Brett and Mark Leaver, both former hockey Black Sticks, and former rugby Black Fern Monique Hirovanaa, will each receive a lifetime achievement award.
Chair of Auckland's Otara-Papatoetoe Local Board, Lotu Fuli, said she hopes that awards will acknowledge the contribution of families in the South Auckland community.
She also hopes to inspire more young people to participate in sports.
"So I think it's really important that we continue to promote our sports people that are doing really well, not just in New Zealand but also around the world. Just for the younger generation to see that there is still something to do in that space.
"And that actually being a really good sports person can open up doors."
