Hopes for new schools to ease pressure in American Samoa

2:03 pm on 16 November 2015

The American Samoa Education Department wants two new public schools built in Tualauta County, the most populous area in the territory.

The education director Vaitinasa Dr. Salu Hunkin-Finau says at the Tualauta county schools the ratio of students to teachers is up to 35 to 1.

Vaitinasa says there are plans for a middle school in Tualauta.

There are also calls for a new high school in Tualautu to take some of the pressure off Tafuna High School, which our correspondent says was not originally built as a school, but had served as military barracks.

There is no time frame as to when these schools will be built.
