17 Pacific nations have agreed on a new fisheries management proposal to take to the December meeting of the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission.

All are members of the Forum Fisheries Agency, based in Honiara, where the proposal was finalised this week.
The FFA's Director General, James Movick, says getting the management proposal approved by the Tuna Commission will be a tough battle against the interests of distant-water industrial fishing fleets.
He says it is a position the FFA is prepared to defend.
The management measures include an agreement on Exclusive Economic Zone catch limits for South Pacific albacore tuna and proposals to reduce shark mortality rates and several other management measures to combat illegal fishing in the region.
