PNG 'not ready' for Ebola

3:27 pm on 28 October 2014

Papua New Guinea says its health facilitites are not up to standard in order to handle a disease such as Ebola.

The executive manager of public health, Dr Sibauk Bieb, says the Port Moresby General Hospital isolation wards for cholera and measles are not up to World Health Organisation standard requirements.

PNG Village reports Dr Bieb as saying a viral disease such as Ebola would need more confined and secure locations.

Dr Bieb says the only option now is to build a new ward but that will require approval and assistance from the NCD Governor Powes Parkop.
