The Northern Marianas Customs Services Division has collected at least three million US dollars more in additional revenue after toughening up the enforcement of tax laws.
Recently customs officers discovered undeclared alcohol from China, undervalued used cars shipped from Guam and the attempted smuggling into the CNMI of other items.
The Governor Eloy Inos says collections for the first half of 2014 are proving better than projected.
He says because of this the government is planning to soon go to the legislature with a proposal for a supplementary budget.
