A Chinese engineering firm has been awarded a multi-million dollar contract for a major road upgrade in Fiji.

China Railway First, which has undertaken a number of public engineering projects in Fiji, has been awarded the 16 and a half million US dollar project to widen two sections of the Kings Road in Suva.

The Fiji Roads Authority's upgrade for Nadi and Suva is worth nearly 110 million US dollars and is expected to reduce congestion and improve airport access.

The state-owned corporation says it will improve tourists' first experiences and boost the economy.

China Railway First is already among several Chinese and New Zealand companies holding construction, upgrade and maintenance contracts with the authority.
