Embattled Nauru Justice Minister in NZ for talks

2:55 pm on 11 February 2014

The New Zealand foreign minister is to hold talks in Wellington this afternoon with the Nauru justice and finance minister, David Adeang.

New Zealand provides significant aid to the Nauru law and justice sector but last month Mr McCully said this was being reviewed after Nauru's resident magistrate was deported and the chief justice was denied a visa.

At the weekend Mr Adeang's ministry was highly critical of a statement from Green Party MP, Jan Logie, that Nauru was descending into a state of chaos and ignoring the rule of law.

The Nauru government called the comment bullying, arrogant and racist but Ms Logie says she stands by the statement.
