A team with the United States Accountability Office, is to conduct a follow up study on the impact of federally mandated minimum wages on American Samoa's economy.
"The team, which is the investigative arm of the US Congress, will arrive in the territory in two weeks time (November the 19-22) to meet with officials of the local Commerce Department, the Treasury Department and the Tax Office to gather the latest data and conduct interviews."
They will also meet with the American Samoa Visitors Bureau as well as the local Chamber of Commerce
American Samoa's congressional member, Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin is working with the Governor Lolo Matalasi Moliga on introducing a bill in Congress that would halt minimum wage increases, but establish a federal committee to set wages based on local economic conditions.
The new study is expected to be released next year while the next minimum wage hike for American Samoa is scheduled for September 2015.
