Israel's Ambassador to Fiji has expressed gratitude for the involvement of Fiji peacekeepers in the Middle East.

In a release, the Fiji government reports that Yuval Rotem expressed admiration and respect for Fiji for its peacekeeping missions as he met with the country's Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama on Wednesday in Suva.

The Canberra-based ambassador says the increasing number of Fijian troops in the Golan Heights on Israel's border with Syria reflects Fiji's commitment to peacekeeping duties in volatile areas.

He says Fiji troops demonstrate a high level of professionalism to approaching issues and that Israel is happy to see Fiji's presence along its borders especially in Sinai, Lebanon and Golan.
