PNG judge attacked in Madang

6:33 pm on 12 June 2013

A report from Papua New Guinea says the senior judge David Cannings was attacked on Monday night near the Madang Country Club by a group of youths.

The newspaper, The National, reports that the Madang-based judge was returning to his home in Kalibobo when a group of youths stopped his car at gunpoint, assaulted him and took his vehicle.

Lawyers filed an application to have all court cases suspended for a week but Justice Cannings refused, saying work was important.

Three weeks ago, a Madang District Court senior magistrate and his wife and daughter were attacked inside their home.
