One of the owners of the undersea fiber optic cable company in American Samoa, which the territorial government has shares in, has recommended to the Lolo Administration to build a new cable either from Fiji or New Zealand.
The company, American Samoa Hawai'i Cable Incorporated or ASH-Cable, is majority owned by Florida based eLandia International while the territorial government owns 33 percent of the shares.
Since February, officials of the company have held several meetings with the governor Lolo Matalasi Moliga to discuss several issues pertaining to the fiber optic cable.
The governor's executive assistant Iulogologo Joseph Pereira says ASH-Cable has recommended to the governor to build a second cable to support an increase in users of fiber optic.
It is estimated that by 2015 the present capacity of the existing cable will be fully utilised, necessitating the new cable.
