The Solomon Islands police commissioner John Lansley is to finish his term after only a year in the job.

The permament secretary for the police ministry, Edmond Sikua, says Mr Lansley applied for his term to be renewed but has a received a letter of non-renewal.

Mr Sikua says the non-renewal has not been made official yet but will mean the commissioner, who comes from England, leaves his job on May the first.

Mr Sikua says the assistant commissioner, Juanita Matanga, is acting police commissioner until Mr Lansley returns from leave in his home country on the 14th of this month.

John Lansley served as Solomon Islands police deputy commissioner a decade ago.
