The Northern Marianas public school system is likely to lose more than half a million dollars in Federal funds from today due to the expected automatic budget cuts.

The Education Commissioner Rita Sablan says the public school system has received notice from the U.S. Department of Education that there will be cuts ranging from 5 to 9 percent.

The two grants likely to be affected are the consolidated grant and the special education grant.
