The Solomon Islands National Teachers Association is grateful to all its supporters after its dispute over pay and conditions was resolved.

Schools affected by a week-long teachers' strike resumed classes today, after Ministry of Education officials signed a memorandum of agreement with teachers yesterday.

The Association's Assistant General Secretary, Walter Tesuatai, says there has been relief among teachers, parents and children alike that schools are back to normal.

He says SINTA also received backing from around the region.

"We'd like to thank them all for their support, yeah I think that is actually what (it) took for this battle to end this way."

Walter Tesuatai says payments owing for teachers will be spread out over several pay periods, starting from this week.
