The Solomon Islands government is expected to hand over registered land titles to ten tribes within the Auluta basin, in east Malaita province on Friday.

According to the Solomon Star newspaper, a multi-million dollar oil palm project is proposed for the area.

The National coordinator for the palm oil project George Boe says the tribal trust boards from Auluta have successfully registered their land and they will collect their certificates in Auki.

Mr Boe says this is a big step in moving the Auluta palm project forward.

He says a congress will be organised for the tribal trust board members to elect a new committee that will represent them in the affairs of the proposed Auluta palm oil development.
