The Vanuatu government is subsidising the price of copra paid to farmers.

It is allocating 150 million vatu or around 1.5 million US dollars, boosting the price paid to farmers by more than 25 percent.

The Vanuatu Commodities Marketing Board, the VCMB, has already released about 300 US thousand dollars to the farmers.

Copra has been the main export commodity in Vanuatu since independence in 1980 and it remains the main source of income for many farmers.
