6:40 am on 11 February 2012

American Samoa's Governor Togiola Tulafono has failed to meet leaders of LBJ Hospital staff who went to his office yesterday to present him a petition to help resolve the hospital's financial crisis.

The doctors waited for seven hours and left late afternoon when they found out that the governor had left his office .

The doctors had persuaded 100 employees who were planning to march to the Governor's office yesterday morning not to do so, expecting to be able to talk to him.

The CEO of the LBJ Hospital Mike Gerstenberger says the hospital will run out of funds by February 19th.

The governor had earlier told hospital leaders to stop a plan to dismiss 274 employees but he hasn't said if he would be providing emergency money to the hospital.
