String of emergency landings in Guam airport called pure coincidence

A series of emergency landings at Guam International Airport within a month is being described as pure coincidence.

United Continental Airlines made four emergency landings last month from Fiji, Japan and Australia, some of which involved faulty indicator lights on B737 aircraft and another one last weekend from Honolulu.

Guam International Airport's spokesperson Rolenda Faasuamalie says the string of incidents is a rare and pure coincidence and are airline or aircraft related.

"They're different aircraft 767. And I would say that they all have a malfunction in some of the apparatus that are on the aircraft that was the nature of the emergency alerts that were given to the aircraft air traffic control tower."

Rolenda Faasuamalie says Guam airport is being vigilant and will be encouraging United Continental Airlines to continue carrying out thorough checks of all its aircraft before they take flight.
