Big offers from investors could spark casino interest in CNMI

The casino debate is again stirring on Saipan in the Northern Marianas with reports investors from Hong Kong and South Korea are prepared to invest up to 300 million US dollars to set up operations.

The House minority leader, Diego Benavente, says Saipan voters should be the ones to decide whether casino gambling is legalised.

Representative Trenton Conner says given the state of the economy voters may change their minds about allowing casinos.

He says the recent work hour cuts and threats of layoffs could sway voters.

Saipan's politicians have already rejected the casino proposals twice with the latest attempt voted down by the Senate in September after it passed the House.
