Fiji Residents end Australian tour with win

The Fiji Residents side have ended their short rugby league tour of Australia with a convincing 40-18 victory over a New South Wales Country Selection.

The visitors were backing up from a 72-0 drubbing at the hands of the Newcastle Knights the previous week but Fiji Rugby League's General Manager, Steve McLellan, says the team always kept a positive frame of mind.

"I just thought our attack, we were good with the ball. Against the Knights we just didn't have enough ball to show what we could do so that was an area, and they worked it out at training throughout the week. As I say there was a good mood in the camp - you know that game goes for another ten I think we put 20 on them - I mean we've gone into the last quarter up by four or six points."

Steve McLellan says one of the aims of the tour was to expose more of their local players and a number of them have picked up deals with Australian teams on the back of their performances over the past fortnight.
