Minister claims Solomons PM lost control over cabinet

12:32 pm on 24 January 2011

One of the four ministers who have left the Solomon Islands government says the Prime Minister no longer has control of Cabinet.

Four Ministers have crossed the floor, and the opposition is to ask the Governor General to recall parliment so a no-confidence motion can be debated.

The former Fisheries Minister, Bodo Dettke, says the Government is being controlled by outsiders, mainly from the logging industry.

"I don't want to really point fingers at anyone but we're all not blind, put it that way, we're all not blind. Everyone can see what's going on. At the end of the day is it the interest for the people and our country or is the interest for the logging industry."

Bodo Dettke says if a vote of no confidence is taken, he will be voting with the opposition, and he expects more ministers to cross the floor.
