Vanuatu's police force has increased its presence at parliament in Port Vila amid uncertainty over a government motion attempting to suspend five members of the opposition.
The opposition leader, Maxime Carlot Korman, and his deputy, Ham Lini - both former Prime Ministers - are among the five.
The motion by Prime Minister, Edward Natapei, accuses the opposition of abusing parliamentary process by calling for an extraordinary sitting last month to debate a motion of no-confidence in government.
However the opposition says the speaker gave no notice of the Prime Minister's motion and claims it is in breach of standing orders.
Security was re-inforced at the parliament entrance and inside the premises following speculation that opposition supporters could become violent if the government decided to debate the motion.
The debate was eventually delayed with an announcement on when the motion will be debated expected by Thursday.
