Cook Islands Electoral Office says it hopes a visiting French patrol boat will transport election officials to islands in the northern group in time for next week's election.
According to the Cook Islands News, the Secretary of Justice Mark Short says there have been discussions with French officials on the logistics of sending a team.
This comes as Mr Short has said that a fishing vessel was helping and that the transport problems were being solved.
Fears of disruption stem from the vessel serving the outer islands having run aground on a reef about a month ago.
