American Samoa officials have been praised for their resolve to protect the territory's food supply.
Off-island instructors are in American Samoa to run courses on food security.
An adjunct professor at Louisiana State University's National Center for Biomedical Training and Research, Dr. Peter Witte, says with the territory importing almost all of its food it's especially vulnerable.
He says American Samoa can take preventative measures to ensure that it never runs out of food.
"The first preventative measure is knowing where you food supply comes from and making sure that we doing the proper testing and making sure we are getting what we think we are getting. When you know where your food comes you're really taking a lot of measures right there to ensure that it's a safe supply."
