Challengers pick PNG as cricket team to beat

2:04 pm on 7 September 2010

Papua New Guinea are the benchmark according to the other teams competing in the East Asia Pacific Under 17 Cricket tournament, which begins in Port Vila today.

The Young Barramundi's face Indonesia in their opening match while hosts Vanuatu are up against Fiji.

Vanuatu's High Performance Manager, Mark Coles, says the young Barramundi's are the clear front-runners.

"PNG are the favourites to win it. They're a very well run side, and are 23rd in the world - their national team is 23rd in the world. That will be the big clash and, obviously, everyone is looking forward to playing them and seeing where everyone fits in and how we can improve to get better or where we are on a scale of one to ten compared with them."
