Solomons orders departments to curb spending

The Solomon Islands Government has directed all its departments to tighten spending because the country facing is a significant budget deficit.

Latest figures issued by the Ministry of Finance show that expenditure for the current year is running ten percent over budget, while the state's income is down a similar amount.

The Government says controls have been put in place in an attempt to manage expenditure and bring the 2010 budget back into balance.

It says significantly financial challenges will continue for the remainder of the current year.
