The World Health Organisation is hoping more funds can be raised for a mass typhoid vaccination programme in Fiji.
The Australian Government has given 840 US dollars to help Fiji deal with its most recent typhoid outbreak which has killed three people in Viti Levu's inland Navosa Province.
The WHO is helping with a campaign to vaccinate five thousand villagers there over the next two weeks.
A WHO specialist in charge of communicable diseases, based in Fiji, Dr Jacob Kool, says experiences in Vietnam and India show typhoid fever vaccination campaigns are very effective.
"Typhoid vaccine is quite expensive that's why we've also gotten in contact with the donors and Ausaid was willing to provide 70,000 vaccines for Fiji. At the moment we don't have enough vaccine to vaccinate the entire population but that's certainly a possibility and we will continue to work on that and see if we can mobilise more funds."
