People in rural communities of western Viti Levu in Fiji are still without power after devastation wrought by Cyclone Mick ten days before Christmas.
Fiji Electricity Authority's Chief Executive, Hasmukh Patel, says electricity should be back on in the last remote areas by next week.
"The urban centres had power logged weeks ago. In fact by Christmas the urban centres had power, and what we were basically looking at was rural areas after Christmas. So now we are in the deep rural areas. In the Central Division we are finished and in the Western Division we should be able to finish by this weekend."
Fiji Live reports concern of increased criminal activity due to street light failure since the cyclone, but Mr Patel says local councils own the street lights and they are not the responsibility of the Fiji Electricity Authority.
