Two workers injured in Papua bus shooting

7:15 pm on 15 September 2009

Police in Indonesia's Papua say at least two people were injured when a bus carrying staff from the Freeport mine was attacked on Saturday.

There have been several recent attacks near the mine, including one in July which claimed the lives of an Australian and an Indonesian security guard, who were both working for Freeport, and a policeman.

The Indonesian military has recently beefed up the security presence around with 600 troops joining the large police guard there.

The Jakarta Post reports that the latest attacks, in which unidentified people shot at the bus carrying cleaners and security workers to the mine, left one man with a wound in his thigh and another with severe eye injuries caused by broken glass.
