The Commonwealth Deputy Secretary-General Mmasekgoa Masire-Mwamba says Fiji will lose out on technical assistance as a result of a suspension from the organisation.
A decision to suspend the Pacific nation was made overnight after interim prime minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama failed to come up with a 2010 date for elections.
Mrs Mwambe outlined the consequences of the suspension.
"Fiji will not be allowed to participate at a ministerial or heads of government level. They will not be able to participate in the Commonwealth games and their flag will be raised down from Marlborough House and all references to Fiji will be as a suspended member."
Mmasekgoa Masire Mwambe says technical assistance will be provided only for activities targeting the restoration of democracy.
Fiji is the second country, after Nigeria, to be fully suspended from the Commonwealth.
