Figures released in French Polynesia show the decline of tourism continued in June, with arrival numbers down more than 16 percent over the same month last year.
For the year so far, the number is about a quarter lower than in 2008.
A breakdown shows that the June figure for cruise ship visitors was just two percent lower while for the first half of 2009, the number has almost halved over the same period last year.
Average hotel occupancy rates are down at below 50 percent.
