The President of the Auckland Boxing Association Tui Gallagher, says just ended competition between a New Zealand Invitational side and boxers from Samoa was of huge benefit for both camps.

The Samoan boxers who have returned home, competed in eight bouts against a New Zealand Invitational side and walked away with six wins.

The President of the Auckland Boxing Association, Tui Gallagher says the competition was of huge benefit to the New Zealand boxers because it's not very often they can come together.

"Because they're so spread around the country, and they end up fighting the same boxers month in month out and to get them competition outside normal circle has to be good for our sport, I think there is a time when we need to get our boxers to step up to really give them a good benchmark of where they sit."

The Samoan boxers also used the competition in preparation for the South Pacific Games in Apia in August.
