The opponents of a proposed hydropower plant on Samoa's Savaii island will again meet the government this week to try and to a solution on the issue.
The village councils of Sili and Ga'utavai told the Minister of works, Transport and Infrastructure at meeting last Thursday that a majority of villagers, including matai, reject the project.
But the minister, Tuisugaletaua Sofara Aveaua, told the group that he believes that its people who live outside of the villages behind the negative decision.
Tuisugaletaua says the project will benefit many people living on the Island and also see a drop in spending on imported fossil fuels for power generation.
However, a spokesperson for the two villages says locals are still concerned about the future impact of the plant, despite an environmental impact assessment report which has found there would be very little affect from the long term process of the hydro plant.
