Samoa's Acting Prime Minister Misa Telefoni says the media has a role in helping political leaders be more effective.
Speaking at a party to officially launch the American Samoan Tribune newspaper Misa said newspapers help leaders be responsive to the needs of a country.
He said one of the media's important roles is to provide leaders with feedback from the people.
The American Samoa governor, Togiola Tulafono, told the launch that people vest their trust in the media and expect it to help keep government and business transparent and accountable.
