An Australian academic says she believes riots in Solomon Islands will recur unless an economic strategy is put in place to create jobs.
Susan Windybank, a research fellow at the Centre for Independent Studies in Sydney, says the riots are less politically motivated and more a result of too many young unemployed people.
Ms Windybank says the Australian intervention three years ago should have focused on trying to boost the economy and provide them with a job.
"That kind of intervention without some kind of long term, economic strategy beyond just pouring aid into the country and ripping out natural resources, unless there's some kind of economic strategy that will lead to labour intensive employment to soak up the Solomon's young growing population, these riots are just going to keep reoccurring."
