Fiji hospital moves to tightern morgue security after two bodies disappear

2:23 pm on 22 February 2006

The acting general manager of Fiji's Lautoka Hospital says they have no idea what might have prompted the removal of the bodies of two still born babies from the hospital morgue.

The babies' bodies were discovered missing when relatives called at the morgue to collect them - one on Monday and the second on Tuesday.

Dr Eloni Tora says police were called in after his staff had searched throughout the hospital and found no sign of the bodies.

He says there are security systems at the hospital but in response to the disappearance a door to the morgue which is usually open will now be locked.

Fiji Police will give no detail other than to say they are investigating the disappearances.
