Solomons landowners push for land title transfer in Gold Ridge area

Reports from Solomon Islands say Guadalcanal land owners won't allow the Gold Ridge mine to re-open unless the government transfer the title of certain land areas to them.

The mine was closed amid the ethnic unrest in the island's centre.

A member of the Lunga-Tenaru Land Trust Board, Mesram Soma, has told the Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation that unless the government transfers the title of these land areas to them, the Malango, Baeomea and Ghaobata land owners in Central and North Guadalcanal will stop the Gold Ridge Mine from re-opening.

The Lunga-Tenaru Land Trust Board says it is still waiting for the national government to fulfill the promise it made last August that the title of those land areas would be transferred to the landowners within a month.
